DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z September 1, 2014
SMOKE Western US: Thin smoke from the Happy Camp Complex in NW CA continues to track ESE from N CA, across the northern half of NV and NW UT to the N Wasatch Range. DUST Oklahoma/Kansas An area of blowing dust was seen over northern Oklahoma extending north into central Kansas. Southern California: An area of light to moderate blowing dust was observed near sunset originating from the desert areas to the southwest of the Salton Sea and moving to the east-northeast. Southern Oregon: A narrow plume of light blowing dust was detected over south central Oregon with the source over the dry Summer Lake. The plume was moving to the south. Hanna/Ruminski THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
