DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1930Z September 10, 2014
Western US: Thin patches of smoke are seen across parts of central and northern California with another patch along the Nevada/Utah border. This smoke is from fires in northern and central California today and yesterday. In addition, a plume of thin to moderately dense smoke, with some small embedded areas of very dense smoke, could be seen coming from the July Fire and the Happy Camp Fire in northwest California streaming southwest out across the Pacific Ocean. South Central US: Areas of thin smoke were observed over parts of northeast Texas, southwest Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, southeast Kansas, and central Missouri. This remnant smoke is believed to be from numerous fires in the southern Plains yesterday. Northeast Canada: Two areas of thin smoke were observed moving away from the Labrador and Newfoundland coasts. This smoke is leftover from a fire that had been burning yesterday in northern Newfoundland. Northwest and North Central Canada: Patches of thin smoke were observed across the Northwest Territories likely from fires burning to the west of Great Slave Lake. Another larger area of thin remnant smoke was seen stretched across Hudson Bay which probably originated from either the Northwest Territories fires or from British Columbia fires.
