DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z September 13, 2014
SMOKE Northwest US: An area of light to moderately dense smoke from the Happy Camp and July complex fires in northwest California was seen drifting to the north and then east across northern California, southern Oregon, southern Idaho and west central Wyoming. A patch of moderate smoke was along the Oregon/Idaho border and also over and just north of the fires. The rest of the smoke was light. Very light smoke from the Deception complex in west central Oregon was seen extending from the fire to the west into the Pacific. Northwest Territories: Several fires in Northwest Territories west of Great Slave Lake generated an area of light to moderately dense smoke last evening which moved to the east and is now seen over Great Slave Lake and north central Alberta. The winds have shifted more to the east and the smoke is now moving to the west and extending up the Mackenzie River basin. Ruminski THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
