DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1730Z September 14, 2014
SMOKE Northwest US: An area of mostly light smoke from the Happy Camp and July complex fires in northwest California was seen drifting to the north and then east across northern California, southern and central Oregon, central Idaho and into northwest Wyoming. Moderate density smoke was confined to the areas in the vicinity of the fires in California. Additional smoke from the Deception complex in western Oregon and an unnamed fire in northwest Oregon to the southeast of Portland in Clackamas county was seen mostly drifting to the west. Moderately dense smoke was seen with the fire in Clackamas county and extended to the northwest of the fire. Western Canada: An area of light smoke was visible extending from a fire complex in west central British Columbia to the southeast approaching the Washington border. Northern and central Canada: The fires in Northwest Territories west of Great Slave Lake continue to burn and produce smoke. Light to moderate smoke extended from the fires to the east reaching the western portion of the Lake. An area of light to moderate remnant smoke was seen moving to the southeast over north and central Saskatchewan. Central Plains: An area of remnant light density smoke from the California fires was seen tracking across Nebraska and into western Iowa. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
