DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z November 10, 2014

South Central/Southeastern US:
Fires producing some visible smoke in satellite imagery were scattered
across the region from southeastern Texas/southern Louisiana to
Alabama. The most numerous fires which were responsible for many
relatively small smoke plumes were located over southern Louisiana.

Earlier This Morning...
Texas Coast:
A small patch of thin to moderately dense smoke was observed this morning
just southeast of Galveston Bay moving southward across the western Gulf
of Mexico. This smoke is from an actively burning fire along the upper
Texas coast between the cities of Galveston and Port Arther, TX.

OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME

FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST
ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF
THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO
THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
