DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE Gulf of Mexico: A broad area of smoke from the seasonal burning in Mexico and Central America was seen this morning over all of the western Gulf of Mexico from the Bay of Campeche northward to the Texas coast and then curling eastward along the Louisiana coast and into the western Florida Panhandle. There were patches of moderately dense smoke within the broader light density smoke, especially over the southwest Gulf. Mixed with the smoke from the agricultural burning is smoke from the oil rigs in the Bay of Campeche. SAND Southern Caribbean: An area of elevated light to moderate density blowing dust from the Sahara stretched from the African coast westward across the tropical Atlantic into the eastern and southern Caribbean. Ruminski THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
