THROUGH 0300Z June 4, 2015
SMOKE Eastern Canada: An area of light remnant smoke from the wildfires burning in northwest Canada was still seen over portions of southeast Quebec, southeast Labrador and northern Newfoundland Island and extending into the Gulf of St Lawrence. The smoke was generally moving to the east. Central Canada: A broad area of smoke was seen over northern and central Alberta and Saskatchewan, southern Northwest Territories and moving into northwest Manitoba and southwest Nunavut. This smoke was mainly from the remaining active fires in northern Alberta and Saskatchewan. There were patches of moderate and dense smoke close to the fires. Southwest US: Fires in southern Arizona, northern Baja and Sonora were producing plumes of light to moderate smoke that extend to the east northeast of the fires along the border region. Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast: An area of haze was seen off the western two thirds of coastal Louisiana and extending into Galveston Bay. Most of this area of aerosol is believed to be haze/sulfate pollution but there is also likely some small contribution of smoke due to some agricultural/prescribed burning over southern Louisiana and east Texas the past couple of days. DUST Southern California: A small area of light blowing dust was noted over southern California originating on the west side of the Salton Sea and moving to the east.
