DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1615Z September 5, 2015

SMOKE:
Western/Central US/Southeast Canada/:
There is a large area of light density smoke visible in central
US extending from Iowa and through Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas and
eastern Oklahoma. The fires in central California are still producing
light to moderate density smoke. A large patch of light density smoke
is visible throughout southeast Canada, mainly in SE Ontario moving into
southern Quebec. The light density smoke can be seen in eastern portions
of Lake Superior and western St Joseph Channel. There are lots of clouds
obscuring the full extent smoke.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
