DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z September 8, 2015
SMOKE: Pacific Ocean/California/Nevada/Colorado: A large plume of light to medium-density smoke is visible originating from the Rough wildfire complex near County. California. The heaviest smoke is visible surrounding the source, as well as lighter smoke moving north as well as east into Nevada and entering Utah. Another detached plume from this source is visible in Colorado as it moves into Nebraska. Light smoke is also visible in northern California near the Oregon border, where wildfires are burning and emptying into the Pacific Ocean. Mid-Atlantic/New England/Atlantic Ocean: A large area of light to medium-density remnant smoke is visible extending NE from Pennsylvania to Nova Scotia this morning. Other areas affecting include New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. This smoke originates from the wildfires that continue to burn on the US west coast, but as well as a single wildfire located near Woodland, New Jersey, that is spilling smoke out into the Atlantic Ocean. AEROSOLS: Mississippi River Valley: Areas of stationary unknown aerosols are visible in eastern Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, and Illinois this morning at sunrise. Due to the agricultural burning that has been going on there and the heavy remnant smoke that has been coming over from the west coast, there is a chance that there is smoke mixed in as well.
