DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE California: Numerous agricultural and prescribed burns over the northern half of California were generating numerous plumes of mostly light, but locally moderately dense smoke. The smoke from the burns in the higher elevation of the Sierra was moving to the east. The smoke from the fires in the Sacramento Valley was moving to the north. DUST Nevada and Oregon: A small area of blowing dust was generated this afternoon from one of the dry lake beds northeast of Pyramid Lake in Nevada. This puff of dust was moving quickly to the east. A stream of blowing dust was detected from Summer Lake in south central Oregon this afternoon and evening. This dust was also moving to the east. Ruminski THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
