DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0245Z December 13, 2015
SMOKE Southeastern US: Only a few smoke plumes were visible in satellite imagery over the Southeastern states, though significant high level cloudiness spread across the region during the afternoon which greatly hindered additional smoke detection. BLOWING DUST Southern California/Southwestern Arizona/Northwestern Mexico: Streaks of thin density blowing dust were observed emanating from sources regions in southeastern San Bernardino and eastern Riverside counties in southeastern California after 18Z. This blowing dust moved to the southeast and into southwestern Arizona by later in the afternoon/early evening just prior to sunset. Additional blowing dust originated from source regions in northwestern Mexico just northwest of the Gulf of California and moved to the southeast over the northern Gulf of California well after 18Z.
