DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE Central and South Central US: The most significant number of fires detected through the day was across the Central and South Central US from eastern Kansas to Southern Texas and across the border into northern Mexico. However, only a few smoke plumes were visible in satellite imagery primarily over southeastern Texas. These thin density plumes spread quickly to the southeast and offshore over the western Gulf of Mexico during the day. BLOWING DUST An area of light blowing dust was observed over southwest Kansas and was moving south to the Oklahoma border by sunset. The dust was being kicked up by strong winds over western Kansas. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
