DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z February 28, 2016
SMOKE: Eastern Gulf of Mexico: Two areas of thin remnant smoke were observed this morning over the eastern Gulf drifting to the northwest. One of the areas was starting to move across southwest Alabama and the far western Florida Panhandle. This smoke is from fires along the Gulf Coast yesterday. Southeast Coast: An area of light smoke was analyzed drifting generally south off the SC, NC, and FL coastlines. This area of smoke was from agricultural burning in the southeast yesterday. DUST: Mid-Atlantic Coast: An area of elevated dust was observed off the Delmarva region moving from west to east. The source region is unknown. Michael/Sheffler THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
