DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE... Southeastern US: An extremely large number of what are believed to primarily be seasonal fires were analyzed across the Southeastern US, along with numerous localized smoke plumes of mainly thin density. Some cloudiness passing over the region did interfere with additional smoke detection in satellite imagery. BLOWING DUST... Northern Mexico/Western Texas: Strong southwesterly winds kicked up a patch of blowing dust which moved across south central New Mexico and far western Texas. The dust was not clearly visible in satellite imagery due to higher level cloudiness though observations from El Paso TX indicated blowing dust around 23Z. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
