DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

UNKNOWN AEROSOL: Northeastern U.S: An area of aerosol was observed offshore of RI/MA, extending to the southeast over the Atlantic. Aerosol models indicate that it is likely largely composed of sulfates, as well as partly consisting of remnant smoke from the large amount of agricultural burning that has occurred throughout the southeastern U.S. and advected around the ridge axis over the eastern U.S. Heeps THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
