An area of aerosol presumed to be remnant smoke along with newer smoke from more recent fires extended along the East Coast of Mexico north through much of Texas and then is presumed to extend east along the Gulf Coast states to offshore the Southeast Coast although cloud cover has hindered smoke analysis over much of this region. The source of this recent and remnant smoke is fire activity over much of the Southeast and Central United States along with fire activity over Mexico.
