DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z April 3, 2016
SMOKE: Central US: A large area of remnant smoke generated from the tremendous number of fires in the Flint Hills of Kansas and Oklahoma yesterday was seen drifting east across eastern Kansas and Oklahoma and covering all of Missouri and most of Iowa and Arkansas and the western portion of Illinois. It was mostly light density smoke with a small patch of moderately dense smoke in southern Missouri. A small patch of remnant smoke was also seen over southwest Oklahoma. A large number of fires were detected again this morning over the same areas of the Flint Hills in Oklahoma and Kansas with additional smoke plumes. This smoke was mostly moving to the northeast. Ruminski THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
