DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0430Z April 5, 2016
SMOKE: Central Plains: A prolific amount of agricultural/prescribed burns were detected in satellite imagery this evening in the Central Plains. Many smoke plumes resulted from these fires which amalgamated into a large area of light to moderate smoke that was primarily moving towards the west in eastern Kansas, southwest in eastern Oklahoma and south in Arkansas. Southeast US: Multiple agricultural and prescribed burns were seen in the US Southeast which produced light density smoke plumes that traveled towards the east-southeast. Gulf of Mexico: An area of light density residual smoke was noted in the the central Gulf of Mexico and was seen traveling towards the south. This area of smoke is likely from yesterday's agricultural/prescribed burns in the Central Plains. -Cronin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.
