DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1745Z April 14, 2016
SMOKE: Central and Northern Plains: An large area of thin remnant smoke from agricultural fires over the past few days was seen from Nebraska stretching north and northeast across parts of South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and across the western Great Lakes into southern Ontario. Much of this smoke is from numerous agricultural/prescribed burns in eastern Kansas over the past two days with other fires throughout the North and Central Plains adding additional smoke. The smoke was seen circling around Lake Michigan moving back to the west across north Indiana/north Illinois. Bay of Campeche/Western Gulf of Mexico: An area of light density smoke from ongoing seasonal burning occurring over portions of Mexico and Central America continues to be seen in the Bay of Campeche and the Gulf of Mexico. A small pocket of moderately dense smoke was present along the coast of the Yucatan. Cloudiness over the northern and central Gulf of Mexico obscured some of the smoke detection in the region.
