SMOKE: Southeast Canada/Eastern US: A large area of remnant thin to moderate density smoke covers much of southeast Canada from eastern Ontario eastward across James Bay/Quebec/southern Labrador/Newfoundland. The smoke extends south through much of the eastern US to as far south as Georgia and Florida. The source of the majority of this smoke is from the wildfires near Fort McMurray. Central US: A large area of remnant thin to localized moderate density smoke covers much of the western and central Gulf of Mexico and extends north through the southern Plains and into the central Plains. The source of this smoke was fires over Mexico. Northern Alberta/Northern British Columbia: An area of thin remnant smoke from the Fort McMurray fires covered much of the region with an area of dense to very dense smoke extending southwest from the Fort McMurray fires. Northeast Pacific: An area of thin remnant smoke covered the northeast Pacific Ocean and extended west along the south coast of Alaska. The source of this smoke is believed to be fire activity over Siberia. DUST: Southwest US: Several areas of blowing dust covered the region with an area over portions of southeast New Mexico extending west southwest into northern Mexico and then a larger area further west from southwest Utah extending southwest to southern California. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/land/hms.html GIS: http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm KML: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/FIRE/kml.html ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
