DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z May 29, 2016
SMOKE Canada: An area of light to remnant smoke from the Fort McMurray wildfire was seen in morning satellite imagery over northeast Alberta, northwest Saskatchewan and southeast Northwest Territories. The smoke coverage is likely greater but cloud cover prohibits determining the full extent. Arizona/New Mexico: An area of light to moderately dense smoke was seen this morning over much of northeast Arizona and far west central New Mexico. The source is from several fires in central Arizona and west central New Mexico. The smoke was lifting to the northeast. Northern Plains to Upper Mississippi Valley: An area of light smoke was seen mixed with clouds from eastern North Dakota southeastward into Minnesota. The clouds hindered determining the full extent of the smoke. This is likely remnant smoke associated with the wildfires in northern Alberta. Gulf of Mexico: An area of light to moderately dense smoke was detected over the southwest Gulf of Mexico and was lifting to the north northwest. The smoke mostly reached as far north as 25N and was west of 92W. This smoke was from the continuing seasonal agricultural burning in the Yucatan peninsula.
