DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0330Z June 16 2016
SMOKE: Mid Atlantic: An area of thin remnant smoke was seen off the Mid Atlantic coast and extending west into coastal Virginia and North Carolina. The source of this smoke was likely fire activity over the Southeast over the past few days. Central Plains: An area of thin remnant smoke extending from Arkansas west towards the Texas Panhandle and north towards Nebraska. The source region of this smoke is ongoing fire activity over New Mexico and Arizona. Gulf of Mexico: An area of thin smoke was over the western Gulf of Mexico extending north towards the central Texas Coast. The source of this smoke is likely fire activity over Mexico and oil platforms off the Yucatan. Alberta and Saskatchewan: A thin area of smoke extended from northwest Saskatchewan towards central Alberta. The source region of this smoke is likely fire activity over northern California. Alaska: An thin area of smoke was located over western Alaska from fire activity in this area. DUST: Southwest: A number of areas were seen over the Southwest in Utah, Arizona, Nevada and southern California. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
