THROUGH 0230Z June 26, 2016
SMOKE: California: The Erskin wildfire in Kern County, California is emitting a large area of thin, moderate and heavy density smoke which is located over the southern third of the state of California. The smoke plume is relatively stationary. South Dakota: Wildfires in southeast Montana and northeast Wyoming are producing light to moderate density smoke plumes which are traveling to the east through the state of South Dakota. Midwest/Northeast US: An area of thin density aerosol which likely contains at least some smoke from wildfires in the Northwest Territories, possibly mixed with smoke from wildfires in the Southwest, is located over the Midwest and Northeast US; however the extent of the smoke is largely not discernible due to cloud cover and its diffuse nature. -Sandusky THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/land/hms.html GIS: http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm KML: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/FIRE/kml.html ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
