DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z July 11, 2016
SMOKE: Canada: Light density smoke is visible through Northwest Territories, Nunavut and in central Hudson Bay moving eastward into Quebec. Heavy cloud coverage obscured the full extent of the smoke. Colorado, Nebraska and South Dakota: Several wildfires in Central Colorado are producing low to moderate density smoke that is traveling towards the northeast. The fire in the northern portion of Colorado near the Wyoming border (Beaver Creek fire) is producing lighter density smoke that is stretching into Nebraska and South Dakota, where majority of the moderate density small is visible. Some cloud coverage in the surrounding area, which limits the visibility of the full extent of the smoke. DUST: Western Gulf of Mexico into the southern Plains: A broad area of Saharan dust continues to be seen this evening across the western half of the Gulf of Mexico, including the entire Bay of Campeche. The dust then extends northward across much of central Texas and into central Kansas. Kemal THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/land/hms.html GIS: http://www.firedetect.noaa.gov/viewer.htm KML: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/FIRE/kml.html ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
