DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200 Z July 16, 2016
SMOKE: Alaska/Northwest Canada: A large volume of fires located in North-Central Alaska continue to burn and produce moderately dense smoke over the majority of northern Alaska that extends east and into northern portions of the Yukon Territory. The smoke extended into portions of the Northwest Territories where it combines with a large area of light to moderately dense smoke from fires over the Northwest Territories. Smoke then extended east southeast through northern Alberta, northern Saskatchewan, northern Manitoba and northern Ontario. DUST: Western Caribbean Sea into the Western Gulf of Mexico: Saharan dust continues to be observed moving north and through the western Gulf of Mexico with the greatest density over the Central Plains. Dust is also faintly visible over the US East Coast heading towards the east and over the Atlantic Ocean. New Mexico: An area of blowing dust was seen lifting north from White Sands New Mexico. Hanna/Boll THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
