DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1830Z July 20, 2016
SMOKE: Canada/Great Lakes Region/Northeast: A very large mass of light density smoke was seen stretching over much of Canada from northern Manitoba through the Hudson Bay and extending southeast to the New England region of the United States and as south as Wisconsin and Michigan. Due to cloud coverage, the full extent of smoke is obscured. North Central US: An area of light density smoke leftover from the ongoing wildfires over portions of the Western US and in particular primarily from the Cliff Creek Fire in western Wyoming was visible stretching from eastern Montana and eastern Wyoming over the Dakotas to western Minnesota. Alaska: Cloudiness significantly limited fire and smoke detection from satellite imagery this morning. Light density smoke was visible moving to the south and over the Gulf of Alaska from a fire located south of Anchorage. DUST: Caribbean Sea/Puerto Rico: An area of Saharan dust could be seen in-between cloud cover moving west over the central/western Caribbean Sea. Another area of Saharan dust was seen to the northeast traveling over Puerto Rico and moving more west-northwest towards the Bahamas. Central and Southern Plains/Midwest: An area of Saharan dust was seen spanning from eastern New Mexico across the Southern/Central Plains into the Midwest and was primarily traveling to the north. -Kemal THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
