DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0315Z August 6, 2016
SMOKE: Western US/Central Plains/Northern Plains/Western Canada: An area of remnant thin smoke from active wildfires across the western United States was extending from portions of western New York and Pennsylvania extending west through the Central and Northern Plains towards the northern Rockies. California/Nevada: An area of remnant smoke from fires over California extended from northern Nevada into portions of central California. Canada: An area of smoke from fires in the Northwest Territories extended from portions of Nunavut and northern Manitoba towards the Northwest Territories and northern Alberta. DUST: Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico: Saharan dust can be seen moving westward through portions of the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
