DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0315Z August 8, 2016
SMOKE: Northern Plains, Northern Rockies and much of Canada: Remnant smoke from fire activity over the Northern Rockies and Pacific Northwest extended from southwest Quebec west through central Ontario, central and southern Manitoba, central and southern Saskatchewan, Alberta, the Northern Plains and the Northern Rockies. Further north, an area of remnant thin smoke extended from northern Ontario through northern Manitoba, northern Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories towards the Arctic Ocean. This smoke was likely from fire activity over Asia. Central California: The fire along the central California coast continues to produce moderate to localized very dense smoke along the central California coast. A fire over southern California was producing a moderate to localized very dense smoke plume that extended northeast through southern California. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
