DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z August 14, 2016
SMOKE: California: Areas of light smoke associated with wildfires along the central California coast and northwest of Sacramento were seen mostly drifting to the north over portions of the central and northern Central Valley. Oregon/Idaho/Wyoming: Long burning wildfires were detected over southwest Idaho and east central Oregon overnight. However, cloud cover is hindering accurate smoke detection and extent. An area of moderately dense smoke was seen in the immediate vicinity of the fire in Idaho (the Pioneer fire). A patch of light density smoke was also seen moving to the east southeast over southwest Wyoming. Wisconsin: A small patch of light smoke was observed this morning over central Wisconsin moving slowly to the east. The source of the smoke is unknown. Northwest Canada: An area of smoke was seen this morning along and east of the southern border between Yukon and Northwest Territories nearly reaching the western extent of Great Slave Lake. The southern extent of the smoke was straddling the British Columbia and Alberta border. There were areas of moderate to dense smoke which were near the southern border between Yukon and Northwest Territories. All of this smoke is from wildfires burning in the region.
