DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z August 29, 2016
Northern US: A large area of light to moderately dense smoke extends from the border of Idaho and Wyoming east through Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota and into Michigan where it becomes obscured by cloud cover. This smoke is likely from the numerous fires in Idaho and the northwestern portion of Wyoming. Pacific NW: The large fire in northern California continues to emit large amounts of dense smoke which is moving to the north through west-central Oregon and central Washington. Midwest: An area of unknown aerosols is located over Arkansas, Illinois and Indiana before becoming undetectable in satellite imagery. Models suggest this area is mainly sulfates but there may also be remnant smoke from the numerous wildfires in the western US. -Salemi THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
