DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z September 10, 2016
SMOKE: California: Light to heavy density smoke emitted from the Gap fire in northern California continues to migrate south along the coast to combine with light to moderate density smoke from the Soberanes fires. Light density remnant smoke from yesterday remains in the Central Valley. Lower Mississippi River Valley: Numerous agricultural and prescribed fires are seen throughout eastern Arkansas that are producing light to medium density smoke that is traveling towards the northeast and into southeast Missouri. DUST: Gulf of Mexico/Southern Plains: Saharan dust was seen over the western Gulf extending towards the northwest and into the Southern Plains although clouds obscured the full extent. Boll/Cronin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
