DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1645Z September 11, 2016
SMOKE: California/Northern & Central Plains: Numerous wildfires out west are burning across central and eastern Idaho, western Wyoming, southwestern Montana, central/southern Utah and western/central Colorado. The fires in western California are producing light density smoke, with the northern smoke plume heading eastward and the southern plume heading to the pacific. Small patches of remnant smoke are visible across central US. A small patch of light density smoke plume is visible around the Wyoming/South Dakota boarder with several other patches of light density smoke plumes in Colorado and Kansas. Unknown Aerosol: A swath of unknown aerosol is visible extending from northern Florida to Virginia. It is not known how much of it is Saharan dust or remnant smoke. Kemal THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
