SMOKE... Central and Southern Appalachians/Tennessee Valley: Numerous wildfires continue to burn across eastern Tennessee, western North Carolina, extreme southwest Virginia, eastern Kentucky and northern Georgia. Extensive cloud cover over much of Georgia and South Carolina hinders detection of the full extent of the smoke in this region. Smoke was seen covering much of the eastern half of Tennessee and the northern portions of Alabama and Georgia. Smoke was also detected in far western North Carolina, extreme southwest Virginia and southeast Kentucky. The heaviest smoke was in the vicinity of the larger wildfires along the North Carolina/Tennessee border and across the northern Georgia border.
