DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800 February 26, 2017
SMOKE: Gulf of Mexico: An area of light remnant smoke was seen this morning along the northwest Gulf just offshore from Louisiana and east Texas. This smoke is likely what remains from numerous agricultural and prescribed burns yesterday over the Southeast US. The smoke was moving to the west into southeast Texas near Beaumont. Another area of light remnant smoke was seen over the southwestern Gulf which is from the seasonal burning in Mexico and Central America. Lower Mississippi Valley: An area of light remnant smoke from agricultural fires and prescribed burns in recent days was seen over northeast Texas, across northern Louisiana and into southwest Mississippi. This area of smoke was lifting north. Ruminski THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
