DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200z February 27, 2017
SMOKE: Gulf of Mexico: An area of light remnant smoke was seen this morning along the northwest Gulf just offshore from Louisiana and east Texas. This smoke is likely what remains from numerous agricultural and prescribed burns yesterday over the Southeast US. The smoke was moving to the west into southeast Texas near Beaumont. Another area of light remnant smoke was seen over the southwestern Gulf which is from the seasonal burning in Mexico and Central America. Lower Mississippi Valley: An area of light remnant smoke from agricultural fires and prescribed burns in recent days was seen over northeast Texas, across northern Louisiana and into southwest Mississippi. This area of smoke was lifting north. Florida: Fires around Lake Okeechobee are producing light amounts of smoke traveling south west towards the Gulf of Mexico. South Carolina: Several fires are burning along the South Carolina coast producing smoke that is traveling south east out to sea. South East US: Fires in the Florida Pan handle, Georgia, and Alabama are producing light to moderate amounts of smoke that is traveling in a clockwise direction with smoke in Georgia going south east then south west, Florida pan handle plumes going west and the plumes in Alabama traveling north west to north. Kansas: Fires in central and eastern Kansas are producing light amounts of smoke that is mostly traveling north east. -Westbrook THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
