DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z March 9, 2017
SMOKE: An expansive area of remnant light density smoke was observed over much of the central plains this evening. The plume is seen from the Texas panhandle stretching E and NE over Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, northern Arkansas, southern Illinois, and Indiana. The smoke originated from the recent large wildfires in TX, OK, and KS. Ramirez From this morning... SMOKE: Florida: A wildfire just outside Naples has produced a long narrow plume of smoke into the eastern Gulf of Mexico. This plume is starting to spread northward toward the panhandle due to low level southerly winds over the eastern Gulf. SMOKE and DUST: Central and South Central US... Large wildfires over the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles along with agricultural burns throughout the central and southern plains have produced a broad area of light smoke extending from north-central Texas west into Arkansas and extending northward into southern Kansas. -Gaetano THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
