DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z April 27, 2017
SMOKE: Gulf of Mexico into Florida and Georgia... A large area of light to moderately dense smoke covered nearly the entire Gulf of Mexico this morning – all but the extreme northwest Gulf along the upper Texas coast and the far southeast Gulf. This is smoke from the seasonal burning in the Yucatan and Central America that has gotten drawn north ahead of a cold front now pushing into the central Gulf. The smoke also extends inland over northern Florida and southeast Georgia. Carolinas... An area of light remnant smoke from the West Mims fire along the Florida/Georgia border in and near the Okefenokee swamp has lifted north and was seen along the North Carolina/South Carolina border. Ruminski THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
