DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: South Florida: Fires burning in Hendry, Broward and Palm Beach counties of southern Florida are producing light to moderately dense smoke which was spreading northward this morning reaching close to the southwestern portion of Lake Okeechobee. Gulf of Mexico/Southern Texas/Mexico/Central America... A very large mass of thin to moderately dense and even locally thick smoke covered portions of Central America, Mexico, the Bay of Campeche, and the western Gulf of Mexico with some of the northern fringe of the smoke likely moving over southern Texas. DUST: A significant region of Saharan dust was present spreading slowly to the west over the Windward and Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, and the eastern Caribbean. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
