DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: North Central US/South Central Canada... An area of very thin density leftover smoke from seasonal fires detected yesterday mainly in southern Saskatchewan was visible early this morning spreading to the southeast from southern Saskatchewan over eastern Montana, western North Dakota, much of South Dakota, southwestern Minnesota, northeastern Nebraska, and western Iowa. Mexico... Thin to locally more dense smoke from ongoing fires over western Mexico was generally limited to western Mexico and the nearby Pacific off the western coast of Mexico. DUST: Another area of Saharan Dust approaching from the east could be seen over the Windward and Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the eastern Bahamas, and a portion of the Caribbean. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
