DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z May 31, 2017
SMOKE: North Central US/South Central Canada.... Leftover very thin density smoke from yesterday's seasonal fires occurring mainly over southern Saskatchewan was visible very early this morning stretching from southern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba southeastward across eastern Montana, the Dakotas, Minnesota, northern Iowa, southern Wisconsin, and far northern Illinois. Northwestern to Central Canada.... Areas of thin to moderately dense smoke attributed to several larger fires burning in the southeastern Yukon, the southwestern part of the Northwest Territories, and northern Alberta were seen over the Northwest Territories as well as far northeast Alberta, and the northern portions of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Mexico... A large area of primarily thin density smoke from the ongoing seasonal burning occurring mainly in western Mexico was present across a good portion of Mexico and possibly extending near or into far southern Texas. DUST... Caribbean... A relatively thin layer of Saharan dust was visible spreading slowly to the west primarily covering the Caribbean with the northern fringe possibly impacting Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and Jamaica. JS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
