DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: South West US... Fires were observed in Central Arizona producing moderate amounts of smoke that were traveling east towards New Mexico. Alaska... Fires in central Alaska are producing moderate amounts of smoke traveling south west towards the Aleutians. Mexico and Western Gulf of Mexico... A significant amount of fire activity continues to be detected over western Mexico resulting in an expansive area of mostly thin density smoke covering a good portion of western Mexico along the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range. Thin density remnant smoke was seen in the Bay of Campeche from burning in western Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula. DUST: Caribbean Sea to the Yucatan Peninsula... An area of thin Saharan dust extends from the Caribbean westward to the Yucatan Peninsula. Westbrook THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
