DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z August 27, 2017
SMOKE: Oregon and Washington... Moderate to dense smoke is noted over western and northern Oregon and southern Washington from the Chetco Bar, Umpqua North Complex and Rebel fires. Part of the plume is moving west off the coast and the rest is moving north and east. Montana and Idaho... The Sunrise and Lolo Peak fires are producing a fairly narrow band of light to moderate smoke. This smoke extends east and southward into eastern Wyoming. Eastern Canada.... A large area of remnant smoke is noted from the Hudson Bay eastward across Ontario and Quebec. Fires burning over eastern Saskatchewan are producing a plume of moderate to dense smoke across Manitoba. Gaetano THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
