DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z October 8, 2017

SMOKE:
Arizona...
An area of light smoke from the 33 Springs fire in central Arizona was
moving to the northeast this evening.

California...
Light to moderately dense smoke from the Lion fire in the southern Sierras
was seen extending to the east and reaching into southern Nevada. The
smoke from earlier today and yesterday was also seen dropping to the
south across southeast California and into the far northern Gulf of
California. Light to moderately dense smoke from a fire in far northwest
Siskiyou county near the Oregon border was seen moving to the east.

DUST:
Oregon...
The dust noted earlier today coming from Summer Lake has continued through
the afternoon and evening. The dust was seen reaching from Summer Lake
to far southeast Oregon along the Nevada border by sunset. Another plume
of blowing dust was observed coming from Mud Lake over southeast Oregon
and extending to the east southeast.

Idaho...
A narrow plume of blowing dust was seen this afternoon and evening
originating near Pagari in south central Idaho and moving to the east
across the Craters of the Moon  National Monument. A separate plume of
blowing dust was seen north of Idaho Falls and moving to the northeast.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS
OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME
DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE
FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST
ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF
THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO
THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
