DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1830Z December 15, 2017
SMOKE: Southern California... The wildfires in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties were continuing to emit large quantities of smoke. The plume is mostly thin with locally moderately think near the fires and coastline. The plume extends for a few hundred miles to the west and southwest into the Pacific. A detached large area of thin smoke is located off southern Baja California. DUST: Central Baja California... A thin area of dust spreads southwest from central Baja California offshore about 200 miles into the Pacific Ocean. BK THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
