DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1830Z May 3, 2018
SMOKE: Florida... A wildfire continues to burn in Collier county releasing an elongated smoke plume stretching westward over the Gulf waters. A few seasonal fires were observed east/southeast of Lake Okeechobee; one of those fires released a heavy-density smoke plume which was transported to the west along with the other neighboring light-density smoke plumes. Mexico... Two areas of concentrated smoke originating from seasonal fires in central Mexico were seen along the Pacific coast to the west and off the city of Veracruz to the east extending into the Bay of Campeche. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
