DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE
IMAGERY THROUGH 0200Z May 17, 2018
SMOKE: North Dakota/Minnesota... Several small and short-duration fires were observed across eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota during the afternoon and early evening hours today. Light density smoke plumes were being transported towards the southwest-west. Mexico... Widespread seasonal fires were observed along western Sierra Madre del Sur spreading thin smoke over the Pacific coastline and extending for approximately 200 miles offshore. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
