SMOKE:

California/Nevada/Colorado....
Wildfires continue to burn and generate traceable smoke albeit with
lower intensity in northern California (Klamathon fires), northern
Nevada (Martin fire), and Colorado (Lake Christine and Thornburg
fires). Relatively light winds result in lingering smoke plumes near
those sources.


Northern US/Great Plains...
Two higher level smoke plumes from last evening burning activity in the
western states are seen moving towards the east, the first stretching
across southeast Idaho, southern Montana, southwest North Dakota and
northwest South Dakota, and the second one stretching across southeast
Wyoming, southern South Dakota, Nebraska, southern Minnesota, Iowa,
Wisconsin and northern Michigan.


Northern/Central Canada...
A large area of higher level smoke is seen covering most of the Northwest
Territories, northern British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba,
and Ontario. The smoke is linked to long-range transport of smoke
originating from biomass burning in central Russia during the first days
of July.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS
OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME
DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE
FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING
DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO
VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS
EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
