Wildfires in eastern Alaska and the southwestern Yukon were producing moderate-density smoke drifting generally eastward and contributing to a larger area of light-density remnant smoke across the region. In addition, fires near the Yukon/British Columbia border were producing medium and heavy-density smoke which was moving slightly east of southward into central British Columbia. Pacific Northwest... Wildfires in central Washington and along the Washington/Canada border were emitting plumes of high-density smoke moving generally eastward initially, then northeastward away from the source fires. Western US... Numerous large wildfires in northern California and southwestern Oregon continue to produce large amounts of heavy-density smoke over large portions of the area. The plumes are spreading mainly north and northeastward, with moderate-density smoke extending into northern Nevada and southwestern Idaho. Another large fire in south-central Idaho is also producing moderate-density smoke spreading to the east. Several fires were detected earlier in Utah and Colorado as well, but that area is now obscured by clouds. MC THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
