DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

The ongoing wildfire activity affecting portions of the western United States and western Canada continues to produce tremendous amounts of smoke with an enormous area of varying density smoke extending over much of provincial Canada and the contiguous United States except for portions of the Mid-Mississippi Valley, Gulf Coast and Southwest. The area of densest smoke extends from Alberta to northern Ontario. Areas with the highest concentration of fires emitting dense smoke contributing to this large area include northern British Columbia, north-central Washington, central Idaho and southwest Montana, and northern California. BLOWING DUST: Caribbean Sea/Gulf of Mexico... An area of Saharan dust extended over much of the western Gulf of Mexico. MC THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
