DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

The ongoing wildfire activity affecting portions of the western United States and western Canada continues to produce enormous amounts of smoke that covers most of Canada and the United States with the exception of the Mid Atlantic coast, Southeast and Gulf Coast extending to the Southwest. The densest smoke within this area extended from from Ontario and the upper Midwest of the United States through southern portions of Canada, the Northern Plains and Northern Rockies of the United States to British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. An additional area of light smoke, from wildfire activity over Asia, extends from the Northwest Territories and the Yukon extending west through Alaska. Hanna THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
